Bonsai plant containers

Bonsai plant containers

A good bonsai has its roots, trunk, brunches and leaves all in proportion. The tree, the surface of the soil with moss or grasses growing on it,and the container are all finely in accord.
Bonsai that grow upright should be placed in shallow, rectangular or oval dishes, whilst weeping trees,as for instance in the cascade style, need to be offset by deep, round or square dish.
The shape of the dish needs to complement the overall form of the plant.A tree with a thick,heavy-looking crown cries out a weighty container. The color, too, must be chosen to suit.Trees that flower and those that have light-green leaves go best with light-colored,glazed dishes.
Dark foliage is complemented by shades of dark red, grey or brown. As for size, choose a dish with the width about two-thirds of the height of the tree,if your bonsai is planted on its own.
With groups of plants the dish needs to have a width about two-thirds the height of the tallest tree.
To be successful at choosing your container you may find it helpful to develop your sense of taste and feeling for shape by studying acknowledges successes in the art of bonsai.

Bonsai plant containers

The bonsai dishes you can buy from specialist dealers usually come from Japan and China and among them you will find a fairly large range of containers in lots of different colours, sizes and shapes. It can be a difficult and time-consuming business finding the right dish, but it is always worth the effort involved.

Bonsai-Rock Plantings

Bonsai-Rock Plantings

Bonsai-Rock Plantings
Bonsai arrangements using rocks follow two basic patterns:those with plants rooted on the rock and having no link with the earth in the dish, and those whose roots run down over the rock into the earth.
Good bonsai rock compositions are achieved when the plants, rocks and dishes form a natural-looking unity.

Bonsai-Rock Plantings

The main thing to consider is which quality of a rock landscape you wish to recreate and which perspective you will select for it.These are considerations that will determine how you arrange the two basic elements of your bonsai.Rocks will look like giant cliff-faces if the trees on them are relatively much smaller, and they'll shrink to the size of rocky fragments if the trees dominate the scene.

Bonsai Tree in Apartment ?

Bonsai Tree

Japanese bring Bonsai in the apartment only on special occasions, may be an important visit, and displayed on specially prepared place.
Bonsai is not a house plant. Above all, except on special occasions, it does not belong into apartment. Bonsai is a tree that was planted in a container, except in size, however, is in no way different from their brothers in the nature. How long would larch or beech survived in central heated homes? A week or two maybe, in winter they would be counted an hour ...

Bonsai Trees-Forms of Bonsai

Bonsai Trees-Forms of Bonsai

Today's Chinese bonsai “masters” strictly segregated 'pun-sai' and 'pun-ching. For many the word 'pun-jing' represents both forms of bonsais. The word 'pun-sai', consisting of the same characters as the Japanese word 'bonsai' means and the tree planted in a container, and without the province, while the 'pun-ching' means a tree planted in a container with the landscape. The art of pun-ching goes back deep into history in the initial period of Han dynasty, around 206 BC. – 220, when the Chinese artists in the creation of the provinces began to create miniature variants of its famous rock garden. Legend says that the Jiang-feng was endowed with magic power, which has allowed to magic small landscapes on the plate. Provinces were very detailed with the rocks, mountains, trees, rivers, houses, people and animals.
In the same period as that pun-ching, which is still a very popular form in Chinese, also the first record of the arts pun-sai in the Ch'in Dynasty (221 - 206 BC). Ton Guen-ming, a well known poet and high official was tired of government affairs, withdrew to the quiet countryside, where he began cultivating chrysanthemums in pots. This was the beginning of the cultivation of plants in pots, which led to the subsequent zooming trees. Only 200 years later we see in the figures from the T'ang period cypress, plum, or the bamboo all growing in containers.

Wonderful world of Bonsai

Wonderful world of Bonsai

Bon-sai, itself a translation of the Japanese words we expect that what we have to deal, BON-container and SAI-tree, the tree in a container. Taken from another angle, in the words Bonsai lies both gardening and art as a philosophy. In the world there are many myths associated with bonsai. But bonsai education is nothing more difficult and demanding than bringing flowers, they need only food, water and sunlight as all plants in the world. Bonsai are not any genetic freaks or special tree variety. Their size, just right for small size, is subject to the specific details over the centuries advanced farming techniques and design. They are only tiny trees with soul of giants. The purpose of arts education bonsai it as soon as possible to breed a tree that looks the most natural, that corresponds to aesthetic criteria, and gives the appearance of old, mature tree.

Rules for Trunk and Nebari Phylum

Rules for Trunk and Nebari Phylum

Rules for Trunk and Nebari Phylum:
Relationships between trunk height and width should be at bonsai tree ratio 1:3 to 1:12, but we steep to the ideal ratio of 1:6, depending mainly on style.
Trunk should be slightly tilted towards viewer, that is achieved the effect of perspective as the observation of the trees in nature (but can not give looks like letter C).
Base of trunk is to be threatened in the roots and give us the feeling that it is firmly anchored
Roots should be evenly spaced around the trunk.
Roots should not be seen directly against viewer.
Top should be inclined to viewer.
Trunk should be uniformly thin, as it rises.
In the formal and the informal upright style should be the top exactly of the base.
In an informal upright style should not be too many "S" curves.
As the tree rises should be the curves closer together.

Bonsai trees-Greatest Perfection

Bonsai trees-Greatest Perfection

When Bonsai entered the history of mankind, is not precisely known. Obviously, only that it happened in China before the 12th century and then in Japan, where in recent centuries, this art shaped by the greatest perfection. Bonsai interfere even in the religious traditions of Zen Buddhism. It is strongly rooted in the eastern performances of ethical ideal of beauty. In the early 20th century, the Japanese began to export bonsai, the greatest interest in the arts in the world, dominated until the last fifty years.
For many years, dominated by the wrong thinking that the specific types of trees, which is very difficult to cultivate. European tree species grows the same as the Japanese or even tropical. Shape them in different styles, but their size varies from 2 cm to 1 m or more. Given the diversity of plant species and individual plants with detailed instructions and criteria of education can not be determined. The nature is our role model. Imitate the growth of trees in natural habitats in mind symbolic three points, which conceived the outline against irregular triangle shape. The lowest point symbolizes earth, middle man, and the highest heaven. We try to approximate the proportion of 1: 6 between the thickness and height of the tree trunks. So, 30 cm high Bonsai should have a thick trunk of at least 5 cm. Very important is the design and arrangement of visible roots - nebari, that symbolize strength and power.
Bonsai is not just a tree in a container. The tree is alive and must live with you. Leroy Fuji says: "Learn from your trees, they are your reflection!"

Bonsai Indoors

Growing bonsai indoors does not have to be a difficult task for most people. If you provide enough lighting and a warm atmosphere, then virtually any type of Bonsai can be grown indoors successfully. You should find a perfect location for your Bonsai. If you can locate a window in your home that maintains the correct temperature for your Bonsai, then placing your Bonsai near the window will help ensure a healthier plant.

Bonsai Indoors

Once a location has been established, you should then purchase a growing lamp to ensure that your Bonsai gets adequate lighting. The growing lamp should be turned on during the day, for the same length of time that your particular Bonsai requires of direct sunlight. The growing lamp should be turned off during the night, so that your Bonsai’s environment is as close to your outdoor environment as possible.

Bonsai Indoors

If you are new to bonsai, don’t fret if at first you fail. All bonsai masters failed too before perfecting their craft.

Wiring of a Bonsai

Bonsai trees presents:Wiring of a Bonsai

Wiring of a bonsai is not done to keep the plant small, but rather is a temporary measure used to hold branches in a desired position. When wiring, try to imitate the natural curves of trees in nature. There are two types of bonsai wire available - copper wire and aluminium wire.

Wiring of a Bonsai

The size of wire used depends on the size of branch you want to train and in most part should be chosen yourself. You should purchase wire in a variety of different lengths and test it out on pruned branches from around the garden.
The safest method to use when wiring is by clenching the branch with both hands and applying the wire by slowly following it around the branch.

Wiring of a Bonsai

Wire the branch first, and then worry about bending the branch to achieve your desired shape. It is best to not water a day before wiring, and to keep the tree in shade for two weeks after wiring.

Watering Bonsai trees

The most complicated part of taking care of your Bonsai is to water it properly.

Watering Bonsai trees

How often a tree needs to be watered depends on several factors (like tree species, size, size of pot, time of year, soil-mixture and climate), which means that it is impossible to say how often you should water Bonsai. However, understanding a few basic guidelines will help you to observe when a tree needs to be watered.

Watering Bonsai trees

As mentioned above, how often to water your Bonsai depends on too many factors for us to give an exact time schedule. Instead, you need to learn to observe your trees and know when they need to be watered. Using the following basic guidelines will help you to water right.
Water your trees when the soil gets slightly dry. This means you should not water your tree when the soil is still wet but only when it feels slightly dry; use your fingers to check the soil at around one centimeter (0.4’’) deep. Once you get more experienced you will be able to see (instead of feeling) when a tree needs watering.

Watering Bonsai trees

Never water on a routine. Keep observing your trees, one by one, instead of watering them on a daily basis.Use the right soil-mixture. The soil-mixture greatly influences how often trees need to be watered, for most Bonsai trees a mixture of akadama, fine gravel and potting compost mixed together in a ratio of ½ to ¼ to ¼ should be fine. However, use a mixture that retains more water (by using more potting compost) when you cannot water your trees that regularly.
It does not really matter at what time you water a Bonsai; however, try to avoid watering during the afternoon, when the soil has been warmed up by the sun and will cool down rapidly when using cold water.

Watering Bonsai trees

As explained, a tree should only be watered when the soil gets slightly dry. When the tree does require water though, it needs thorough soaking so the entire root system is wetted. To do so, keep watering until water runs out of the drainage holes, and repeat the process about ten minutes later.
Water a tree from above using a watering can with a fine nozzle; this will prevent the soil from being washed away. Using collected rain water is better (as it doesn’t contain added chemicals), but when this is not readily available there is no real problem in using normal tap water.

Bonsai styles

Every experienced bonsai enthusiast has his/her own personal idea of what bonsai is to them and what defining factors make them aesthetically appealing.
The two basic styles of bonsai are the classic (koten) and the informal or 'comic' (bunjin). In the former, the trunk of the tree is wider at the base and tapers off towards the top; it is just the opposite in the 'bunjin', a style more difficult to master.

Bonsai styles

The five basic bonsai styles are formal upright, informal upright, slanting (or windswept), semi-cascade and cascade. All have their own individual beauty and serenity.

Bonsai styles

A tree with a style such as formal upright occurs when it has grown in the open under perfect conditions. The most important requirement for this style is that the trunk should be perfectly straight, tapering naturally and evenly from base to apex.
In an informal upright bonsai the trunk should slightly bend to the right or left - but never towards the viewer.
Trees that slant naturally occur a result of buffeting winds or deep shade during early development. Whether curved or straight, the whole trunk leans at a definite angle.
The growing tip of a cascade bonsai reaches below the base of a container. The trunk has a natural taper and gives the impression of the forces of nature pulling against the forces of gravity.
The tip of a semi-cascade, like the cascade, projects over the rim of the container, but does not drop below its base. The style occurs in nature when trees grow on clifs or overhang water. The angle of the trunk in this bonsai is not precise, as long as the effect is strongly horizontal, even if the plant grows well below the level of the pot rim.
