In the early stages of cultivating bonsai it is possible to make do with equipment you are likely to have to hand,secateurs and pruning shears,for example.In the long run,however,you won't be able to do without tools specially designed for bonsai.Slender bonsai scissors,for instance,make it possible to reach every branch and root on your plants.Pliers for removing wire are so designed that they won't damage the bark,and the pliers used for making a concave incision leave behind a wound that heals quickly,without nasty scarring.
The bonsai tools,developed in Japan,are the most important ones you'll need.Provided you treat them carefully,in particular giving them a thorough clean after use,they should last a long time and give good service.

-Screw-clamp for bending branches and trunks
-Leaf cutters
-Pliers for cutting thick roots
-Brush for cleaning and smoothing the surface of the soil
-Wire cutters for removing wire
-Scissors for cutting shoots,branches and thinnish roots
-Saw for sawing off thick branches
-Paring or wood chisel for gouging out a fairly large incision
