BONSAI FROM THE WILD

Bonsai Tree-Taken at the National Bonsai and Penjing Museum

In years gone by many people in Japan used to take themselves off to the mountains in spring to find suitable bonsai, and they often brought home with them some really lovely specimens.
before collecting from the wild you should gain the permission of the landowner if you intend removing any material, and make sure you are up-to-date with information regarding protected species.Your chances of successfully replanting your find will be good if you go collecting at the beginning of spring;plants will not have begun to grow again and so can still tolerate a change of site quite well.Take with you a small spade,a sharp knife or secateurs,a couple of plastic boxes, newspaper and some water. That way you'll be able to dig up your specimen with as much root and soil attached as possible, and be able to wrap it in damp newspaper to stop it drying out and get it home safely.

Bonsai from the wild

Seedlings about 10-20cm high are suitable material and should present no problems for further cultivation as they still have a compact ball of roots and can be taken out of the ground easily.
At home plant your young tree in loose soil in the garden or put it in a large pot with a good drainage layer and a mixture of equal parts peat/sand.
After one or two years the roots should be cut and the tree repotted into a bonsai dish.

Bonsai -Miniature landscapes(Saikei)

Bonsai -Miniature landscapes(Saikei)

Saikei are miniature landscapes planted in shallow dishes to represent a piece of natural scenery-perhaps a strip of river,a waterfall in the mountains,a pine grove by the sea or a deciduous wood with pathways and streams.Saikei have a long history if we include among the art those miniature landscapes depicted on thirteenth and fourteenth century scroll paintings. The art of forming saikei was rediscovered recently by Japanese bonsai master, who developed the art further. In the West, saikei is becoming better known and has attracted much admiration from bonsai enthusiasts.

Bonsai -Miniature landscapes(Saikei)

Saikei are different from bonsai group plantings mainly in that not only trees are used but also rocks and various types of earth-sometimes even tiny houses, bridges, animals and figures, too.Good saikei formations work because the three basic elements, trees, rocks and earth combine in a harmonious way.

Bonsai Final Form Idea

Bonsai Final Form Idea

Any tree you want to create in Bonsai needs your idea - the idea of the final form. Consider some aesthetic rules. If the two branches grow opposite one another in the same amount of wood in relation to the desired shape, remove one. It also normally cut all the lateral branches that grow vertically or down, or intersected with the timber. The cut is carried out with the concave scissors. The wound will be healed so beautiful and will be less noticeable.
To allow the new shoots of non-developed, the loss of tree form and the branches become too fat. Many of internal branches may die, because the growing energy is directed at the top and external branches. Therefore, we have new shoots regularly cut or removed. How many times do that, depending on the type of tree. Some grows only once in spring, while others all to late fall. How much and how it shortening, depends on the type and the desired shape. New shoots do not cut if we want the new branch and not cut as long as it does not achieve the desired thickness. Regular pruning with good wiring allow diversification and branching, which develop small leaves or needles. Flowering types circumcise only after flowering.

Bonsai Tree in Apartment ?

Bonsai Tree

Japanese bring Bonsai in the apartment only on special occasions, may be an important visit, and displayed on specially prepared place.
Bonsai is not a house plant. Above all, except on special occasions, it does not belong into apartment. Bonsai is a tree that was planted in a container, except in size, however, is in no way different from their brothers in the nature. How long would larch or beech survived in central heated homes? A week or two maybe, in winter they would be counted an hour ...

Fertilization of Bonsai

Fertilization of Bonsai

Even fertilization of bonsai is very important. In a small container is not much land, and although bonsai most of the time starve to slow growth, they certainly need some food.
In principle we use two types of fertilizers:
-on the basis of nitrogen for leaf growth, adding at the spring and summer
-on the basis of potassium, which promotes the growth of leaves, flowers and fruits, which adding in autumn to strong trunk and branches.
Bonsai fertilizer:
-summer- on 14 days
-winter-1 monthly

The word 'pun-sai', consisting of the same characters as the Japanese word 'bonsai' means and the tree planted in a container, and without the province, while the 'pun-ching' means a tree planted in a container with the landscape. The art of pun-ching goes back deep into history in the initial period of Han dynasty, around 206 BC. – 220, when the Chinese artists in the creation of the provinces began to create miniature variants of its famous rock garden. Legend says that the Jiang-feng was endowed with magic power, which has allowed to magic small landscapes on the plate. Ton Guen-ming, a well known poet and high official was tired of government affairs, withdrew to the quiet countryside, where he began cultivating chrysanthemums in pots. This was the beginning of the cultivation of plants in pots, which led to the subsequent zooming trees. Only 200 years later we see in the figures from the T'ang period cypress, plum, or the bamboo all growing in containers.

How to get the first tree that will someday become a beautiful tree in a beautiful container? There are several ways. If you have money and just want to have Bonsai at home, you simply buy (watch for the internal and external). Other variants are seedlings from the nurseries, cuttings, seedlings from seeds, and of course, adequate extraction of plants from the wild - yamadori. Bonsai Trees-What is Bonsai?

Bonsai Trees-What is Bonsai?

What is Bonsai? For most, this is only BON - container in the SAI - tree. BONSAI in Japanese means tree in a container, which is compared with the trees in the nature of proportional smaller copy. And not only that. Bonsai is an art, collaboration with nature, meditation. We need to know the requirements of the plants in nature; we need to be gardeners, architects and philosophers. Our ally is the time, which can not be overtaken. Rare are the shortcuts on the path of creating. They sometimes get experienced growers and masters, but always with the fear to lose, to destroy lives, a tree, the idea makes sense. The oldest bonsai in Japan are over 600 years old and have the status of the national treasure. Specimens that are transmitted from generation to generation are of inestimable value.
